This is a 12-part series that brings humans together over Zoom with expert facilitators to guide us and hold space. Be prepared to embark on a monthly experiential journey of remembering where you will be invited to break out of the robotic grind and soften your armour. For each monthly series, you’ll get 4 CFPC Mainpro+ credits (that’s all your mandatory credits for the year, family docs!)

About

The more we get together, together, together, the more we get together the more human we'll be.

We designed this experience recognizing that many of the ideas that we’ve been chewing on require time to digest. This 12-part series explores monthly themes that invite women to shed their layers and reconnect with who they are when they are out of auto pilot. Who are you when there are no shoulds and supposed to dos blocking the way?

While many of our offerings are self-directed, we wanted to create one community-based highly experiential journey because, well, we’ve missed you. We love being together and showing up as humans exploring what’s possible when we come together in one magical space.
So, we have crafted an experience that invites us to share and witness each other's humanity so that we can hold and love all of our brokenness in one giant cocoon of keeping it real.

What's going on here?

Each month an expert facilitator will be brought in to hold space for us, guide us, and support our healing.

Please, come join us as we take off our armour so we can get off the treadmill we run everyday, and see what we notice when we stop trying so hard. We welcome you to come unmasked and imperfect.

  • Each month’s theme will be facilitated on Zoom for 90-minutes (sessions will be recorded)
  • Each meet-up will include a guided practice, somatic technique, or good ol' fashioned movement practice (because we believe the mind-body connection is real)
  • Prior to the session, you will receive an email with content and practices that introduce you to the monthly theme so you can being working through the ideas in your own time
  • After the session, you will receive a final email with key insights, practices/techniques to deepen your learning,, a link to the recording, and of course, your CME credits.

January - March:
Soft Skills for Hard Times

A 3-part series for the Understory Immersive: These sessions will serve up digestible amounts of knowledge, wrapped in a cozy blanket of soothing and supportive experiential practice.

Session 1- Somatic Foundations

This session will lay the groundwork for understanding why somatics are trending, what somatics are and—maybe more importantly, are not—and why body based awareness and skills are a core part of mitigating or preventing burnout for clinicians.

Skills we will discuss and practice:
Orienting & Grounding
Attunement & Consent
Resourcing & Pendulation

Session 2- Contact Nutrition

Contact Nutrition is a delightfully simple, and surprisingly potent framework for applying Dr. Stephen Porges' Polyvagal Theory in daily life, both personally and professionally. In this session we will explore the senses and how they relate to our ability to regulate our nervous system and support those around us to do the same. This is particularly relevant to those of us who have roles at work and home that lead to feeling like a "human docking station".

Session 3- Rhythms of Regulation

In this session we will go deeper with the skills and concepts we've learned, and honour the truth that we are far more than a nervous system. A well regulated nervous system that can shift states with relative ease is foundational to wellbeing, but it's not the end goal!
Reliable regulation allows us to connect more deeply with awe, wonder and profound states of connection, states we need to access to nourish our humanity.
Let's explore how rhythms of simplicity and repetition build our resilience for depth and complexity.

What?

Who?

Annie is a somatic coach, registered massage therapist, educator, and mother of two. She maintains a trauma-informed massage therapy practice in Ottawa and provides mentorship to clinicians at risk of burnout, both online and in-person. Supporting health care workers to stay in the game, while staying human is a core interest, with a particular focus on the risks and challenges faced by women in midlife. Connections with friends, family and colleagues are her everything and if those connections happen by a lake or on a cross-country ski trail, so much the better.

4 CERT+ Mainpro credits (CFPC approved).

A private Facebook forum for discussion, questions and support

Course material via email and a 90-minute Zoom session at the end of the month with expert instruction

Opportunities to share, observe, reflect and/or just listen - come as you are!

Growth and change looks different for everyone but one thing we know to be true is that incredibly meaningful healing occurs in relationships so let's get together and get our relating on.
